August 3 2023

The sea journey from Russia took about 2 months

The reactor vessel for unit 7 of the Tianwan NPP, which is being built in China with the participation of the engineering division of Rosatom, has arrived at the construction site. The journey from Russia by sea took  less than 2 months. On August 2, four steam generators, three housings of the main circulation pump unit and a bubbler were delivered to the construction site, the press service of the state corporation Rosatom reports.

“According to contractual obligations, the Russian side, during the implementation of the Tianwan NPP project, ensures the supply of equipment for the nuclear part of the plant, its installation and commissioning supervision. The reactor vessel, manufactured in Russia for the unit 7, arrived at the construction site today, and after all the necessary production and inspection procedures will be installed in accordance with the project,” said Alexei Bannik, Vice President for Projects in China and Advanced Projects of Atomstroyexport JSC.

The weight of the VVER-1200 reactor vessel is 334.2 tons, the length is 12 m.

As PortNews reported, at the end of April 2023, Rosatom shipped reactors and steam generators for two NPP: the Kudankulam NPP in India and the Tianwan NPP in China. Barges with two reactors and eight steam generators from Volgodonsk passed through Volgograd, Saratov, Samara, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Yaroslavl and Onega and Ladoga lakes. The route along the rivers of Russia was 3.5 thousand km. In early June, the equipment was delivered to the port of St. Petersburg, where it was loaded onto sea vessels. The total weight of the equipment was about 3.4 thousand tons. It was the first simultaneous shipment of equipment for two countries in the history of nuclear engineering.

Tianwan NPP is located in Jiangsu province (China). On June 8, 2018, an intergovernmental protocol and a framework contract for the construction of power units 7 and 8 of the Tianwan NPP with Russian VVER-1200 reactors (newest generation III+) were signed in Beijing.
