Creation of a transit hub in the port of Rajin will increase the cargo turnover between Russia and Korea – head of the Ministry of Natural Resources

Alexander Kozlov, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia held a working meeting with Yun Jong Ho, Minister of Foreign Economic Affairs of the DPRK and Co-Chairman of the Russia-DPRK intergovernmental commission. The Minister noted the importance of the logistics project to create a large transport and transit hub on the basis of the Korean port of Rajin. Its implementation will increase the cargo turnover between two countries and create conditions for expanding cooperation. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia.

“I think it is important to take measures for the “reanimation” of the joint strategic project “Khasan-Rajin”. I propose to study the possibility of using the port of Rajin for receiving not only coal, but also other cargoes,” Alexander Kozlov added.

As the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia emphasized, in 2022 and 2023 bilateral cooperation began to recover after the pandemic. The work of the subcommittees on scientific and technical cooperation and on the timber industry has resumed.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the ongoing negotiations between Russian and North Korean companies on the possibility of grain supplies this year. Another promising area of cooperation is the supply of meat products.

According to the representatives of Russia, today the prospects for cooperation in the field of subsoil use are also obvious.

“The mineral resource base of the DPRK is rich in various types of raw materials. After the removal of covid restrictions in the DPRK, we are ready to involve our specialists in discussing the implementation of joint exploration projects,” Alexander Kozlov said.

From the Russian side, the meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Communal Services, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Bank of Russia , as well as Russian Railways.

The head of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia was appointed chairman of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation between Russia and the DPRK on August 9, 2022.
