Shipbuilding
Last week’s shipbuilding news featured the implementation of a number of interesting projects. It was announced that 10 more icebreakers and 46 rescue vessels will be built by 2035 for the development of the Northern Sea Route. The Khabarovsk Shipyard will also build passenger ships for the region in 2026. In Yakutia, the renovated construction and installation complex of the Zhatay Shipyard is being prepared for launch. This complex includes a slipway with an area of 18,600 square meters and a hull production block with an area of 17,800 square meters. The Amur Shipyard (ASZ) has assembled 39 sections of the Amur floating dock of project 17574. Stapel Design Bureau completed the design and handed over to the customer the technical design of the tug-pusher of project RDB 50.07.
Shipping
One of the major news items in shipbuilding recently was the announcement that the nuclear-powered icebreaker Arktika escorted the Arc7-class gas carrier Alexey Kosygin on its maiden voyage delivering LNG. Ice cover in the Arctic Ocean is thinning, according to the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI). Russia’s entire fishing fleet, comprising 900 vessels, is now equipped with the Gonets satellite system. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport is negotiating with Brazil to launch a direct container line from St. Petersburg, and the Yaroslavl region is planning to launch new Meteor routes.
Ship Repair
For several weeks now, Russia’s ship repair industry has been gaining momentum. Shipowners are increasingly preparing their fleets for the upcoming navigation season. In Dagestan, for example, technical specifications are being developed to restore a ship repair yard. In the Volga-Don basin, 49 vessels are scheduled for repair, and in the Moscow region, specialists from the Serpukhov branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Moscow Canal” have completed repairs on the motor ship “Razliv». Two Meteor-class vessels, which had been moored for several years at the base, are being restored at the Zaozersk Repair and Maintenance Base. The project is being handled by the company Vodohod. In Russia’s largest region, Yakutia, units of the Lena United River Shipping Company (LURC) have completed over 60% of the icebreaking works.
Events
The industry’s developments touched on a number of pressing issues. It was revealed that restrictions on the operation of older vessels may not affect the fishing fleet. The Ministry of Transport has prepared proposals to amend the initiatives to ban the operation of vessels over 40 years old after 2030. Serial production of deep-sea robots will begin in Russia in 2027. They are planned to be assembled at the Russian Marine Team company jointly with Fertoing in Lomonosov. In the Yaroslavl Region, plans are underway to build new berths and continue landscaping the embankment along Lake Nero in Rostov the Great, and a container terminal will be built in Blagoveshchensk in 2026.
Ports
Russia’s port infrastructure continues to demonstrate moderate growth. Recently, Rosmorport announced a search for a contractor for the 737.5 million ruble reconstruction of the port of Sochi. The OTEKO Group, a key investor in the infrastructure of the Taman seaport, plans to bring its indoor mineral fertilizer warehouse, with a design capacity of 300,000 tons, to full capacity by 2026. It was also recently announced that the Khabarovsk Krai is preparing to receive cruise ships in Nikolaevsk-on-Amur, and fishery exports from the ports of Primorye and Sakhalin continue to grow.
Fisheries
Russian fishermen are increasing their harvest of aquatic bioresources. According to current data from the Federal Agency for Fisheries’ industry monitoring system, the 2026 catch has already reached 427,000 tons. The Far Eastern fisheries basin traditionally makes the main contribution to this volume. The first batches of fish products from Kamchatka this year, totaling 52.4 tons, were exported to Europe. Meanwhile, Khabarovsk Krai is addressing the issue of attracting personnel to its fishing industry. On the other side of Russia, Black Sea fishermen set a four-year catch record in 2025. This was facilitated by coordination with emergency services and the absence of scheduled repairs. Meanwhile, the State Duma plans to increase the pension coefficient for maritime fleet and fishing industry workers.
