The volume of new shipbuilding contracts reached 107.82 million dwt, which is 69% of the global market

According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, the Chinese shipbuilding industry strengthened its position in the global market in 2025, demonstrating double-digit growth in the number of completed projects and a record volume of future orders.
During the year, shipyards delivered 53.69 million dwt, an 11.4% increase over the 2024 target, accounting for 56.1% of global production by tonnage.
The volume of newbuilding contracts signed reached 107.82 million dwt, accounting for 69% of the global market.
By the end of December, the backlog of orders rose to 274.42 million dwt, an increase of 31.5% year-on-year and accounting for 66.8% of the global order book.
According to the ministry’s report, China has led all three key global shipbuilding indicators for the 16th consecutive year.
