The bulk carrier will deliver 185 gantry crane components with a total weight of 820 tons to Russia
The shipping route connecting the new port area of Yueyang Chenglingji New Port and Vladivostok marked its first export shipment of bulk cargo since the launch of a direct international shipping line, which will increase cargo turnover in this direction, Hunan Today reports.
The ship was loaded with 185 gantry crane components weighing a total of 820 tons and costing 17.7 million yuan ($2.5 million).
It is noted that the new shipping service has reduced costs by 35% and travel time by 15 days compared to traditional coastal methods of transshipping equipment from Hunan Province. “This means that Hunan, known as the ‘capital of construction machinery’, has officially opened the Golden Road directly connecting it to international markets,” the statement said.
Hunan Province is the country’s largest market for construction equipment (exporting seven out of ten concrete mixers). However, for a long time, Chenglingji Port handled container cargo mainly and did not have the capacity to export other cargo. This limitation forced local businesses to seek remote ports for export deliveries.
Thus, a new sales channel for Hunan’s manufacturing sector has emerged and the functional upgrading of Chenglingji Port has been completed to transform it from “container-oriented” to “container-bulk-oriented”.
As PortNews IAA previously reported, the first direct line for the delivery of goods from Hunan province to Russia was launched in the summer of 2023. In 2025, transportation of dangerous chemical cargoes also began along this route.
