The floating nuclear power plant (FNPP) ‘Academician Lomonosov’ has generated the first billion kilowatt-hours of energy for the isolated network of the Chaun-Bilibinsky power hub on the Chukotka Peninsula. Currently, the share of the plant’s generation in the power hub exceeds 60%, the press service of the Rosatom state corporation reports.

The FNPP increases its generation annually and in each of the last years it has exceeded the target levels assigned by the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia), the report adds.

In the context of growing energy consumption in Chukotka, the FNPP is capable of increasing its electricity generation by 70%.

The floating nuclear power plant ‘Akademician Lomonosov’ (project 20870), built by the Baltic Shipyard, was handed over to the customer in June 2019. In September 2019, the FNPP arrived at the port of Pevek (Chukotka). On December 19, 2019, the station produced its first electricity to the isolated network of the Chaun-Bilibino hub. Its ‘clean’ total capacity supplied to the coastal network of Pevek without the consumption of thermal energy by the shore, is about 77 MW, in the mode of issuing nominal thermal power – about 70 MW.
