The restrictions are not due to violations on the part of the company and have no legal basis
In its commentary on the introduction by the US Treasury of new large-scale sanctions restrictions against the group of companies and its fleet, “Sovcomflot” JSC noted that solely political interests motivate these sanctions.
The new US sanctions were announced on January 10, 2025.
“The sanctions pressure on “Sovcomflot” has been consistently increasing over the past three years, starting in 2022. “Sovcomflot” has always complied with and continues to comply with all applicable international and national laws and requirements. The company’s vessels are not part of the “shadow fleet”. The sanctions against Sovcomflot are not due to violations on the part of the company and have no legal basis; they are motivated solely by the political interests of individual countries, including the United States,” the group said in a statement.
The company emphasizes that such a sanctions policy is increasingly destroying the global system of maritime commercial shipping, which has been in place and functioning for decades.
“It is regrettable that political interests are being placed above the universal principles of maritime safety. The initiators of the sanctions, by their actions, intentionally and purposefully increase the risks to the environment and human health – not only for sailors, but also for residents of coastal regions of the world. At the same time, the initiators of the sanctions bear full responsibility for the possible consequences of their actions,” the company said, adding that the introduction of new sanctions against “Sovcomflot” vessels creates additional operational problems.
