As part of the regular Arctic Express No. 1 service along the Northern Sea Route (NSR), 5 voyages from China to Arkhangelsk and back are expected in August-September 2024. This was reported in the Telegram channel of Russian Railways, one of the organizers of the cargo transportation.

“The first train with containers from China, delivered via the Northern Sea Route, was sent from Arkhangelsk. Cargo transportation from China is organized as part of the regular Arctic Express No. 1 service with the participation of Russian Railways… The first train has 78 containers with components for cars. It is traveling from Solombalka station (Arkhangelsk) to Tula Region”, the statement said.

To deliver imported goods to the regions of Russia, technologies have been developed for forming container trains at 8 stations in the Arkhangelsk region, and special accelerated schedules are applied.

As IAA PortNews reported earlier, the Arctic Express No. 1 project is being developed in cooperation between the Arkhangelsk Region government, Russian Railways and the Chinese company NewNewShipping Line (Torgmoll). The route connects Arkhangelsk and the main Chinese ports of Shanghai and Ningbo via the Northern Sea Route. The first call of a container ship along the new logistics route to the port of Arkhangelsk from China took place in mid-August 2024. For the first time in the last 30 years, cargo with imported products was delivered to the port.
