The ship sailed along the Northern Sea Route and for the first time in 30 years delivered imports to the port

The first vessel arrived at the port of Arkhangelsk from China via the new logistics route “Arctic Express No. 1”, which runs along the NSR. For the first time in the last 30 years, cargo with imported products was delivered to the port, the press service of the Arkhangelsk Region government reports.
The Chinese vessel covered a distance of 6.6 thousand nautical miles and delivered car parts, household appliances and consumer goods from China to Arkhangelsk. In a few days it will set off on the return journey with a cargo of export paper, cardboard, cellulose and lumber
The welcoming ceremony for the ship was attended by the First Deputy Governor – Chairman of the Regional Government Alexey Alsufyev, Advisor to the Chinese Ambassador to Russia Gao Shixian, Chairman of the Union of Chinese Entrepreneurs in Russia Zhou Liqun, and General Director of the NewNew Shipping Line company Ke Jin.
“This ship delivered almost 500 containers to Arkhangelsk,” noted Alexey Alsufyev. “And in two weeks we expect the arrival of two more vessels, which will have about 700-800 containers on board. The most important thing is that we are now connected by seamless logistics with the center of the country: containers are transported from the Moscow region to Arkhangelsk, from where they will be sent to China with the products of the region’s timber industry enterprises.”
As Zhou Liqun added, container transportation along the Northern Sea Route will become the main direction for the development of cooperation between Russia and China.
As IAA PortNews reported, the first direct voyage in the last 10 years from Arkhangelsk to Shanghai along the NSR with lumber in containers was sent in 2023. The Chinese carrier NewNew Shipping Line plans to make 10 ship calls in 2024, which will ensure regularity of the export-import container line between Russia and China.
