The vessels were built for the Russian Crab Group of Companies based on the results of crab auctions

On June 5, 2024, , A flag raising ceremony was held at the Admiralty Shipyards on two crab catchers – “Captain Egorov” of project SSa 5712LS and “Captain Manzholin” of project 5712P. The vessels were ordered by the “Russian Crab” group of companies based on the results of crab auctions with investment obligations, as reported in the Rosrybolovstvo Telegram channel.
Ilya Shestakov, head of “Rosrybolovstvo” agency, State Secretary – Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov, representatives of shipyards and the customer company, attended the ceremony.
“Today, crab catchers will join the Russian fishing fleet… The work of new crab catchers will have a positive impact not only on the company’s financial results, but also directly on the crew’s salaries. I hope that we will plan to increase the production of such vessels and transfer them to customers, and as a result of the implementation of the second stage of the industry modernization program, Russia will have the most modern fleet,” Ilya Shestakov is quoted as saying.
“These two vessels demonstrate the possibilities of diversification of both shipbuilding products and crab industry products… Modern crab catchers – high-tech and reliable – will expand our capabilities to offer new products and improve quality,” commented Yulia Yurova, Director General of the “Russian Crab” Group of Companies.
“Captain Egorov” is the second vessel of the SSa 5712LS project in the series, delivered to the company by the Onega Shipbuilding and Shiprepair Plant (OSSZ, Republic of Karelia). The lead vessel of the project is already fishing in the Bering and Okhotsk seas. The vessels of the series have a two-level hold with 32 independent tanks for preserving and transporting live products. Control of temperature, salinity and oxygen content in the water of the tanks allows us to ensure the safety of live crab at the level of 98%. Main characteristics of the vessel: length – 57.7 m; width – 12.6 m; autonomy – 40 days; full speed – 12.6 knots; main engine power – 1620 kW; bow thruster power – 400 kW; crew capacity – 24 people; the volume of tanks for transporting live crab is 440 cubic meters; capacity for live crab – 110-120 tons.
“Captain Manzholin” is the lead in the series of crab-processor project 5712P, built at the “Okskaya” shipyard (Nizhny Novgorod region). The vessel is intended for industrial production of crab and its processing. The vessel is equipped with a modern factory for processing the catch into finished products. Main characteristics of the project 5712P vessel: length – 57.7 m; width – 12.6 m; autonomy – 40 days; full speed – 12.3 knots; main engine power – 1600 kW; bow thruster power – 400 kW; crew capacity – 32 people; processing and production of finished products per day – 15 tons; freezing hold volume – 500 cubic meters. m. The vessel has Ice2 class.
As IAA PortNews reported, since 2020, the “Russian Crab” Group of Companies has been implementing a program to build 10 crab fishing vessels: seven of them are designed for catching and transporting live crab, another three are crab processors for catching and processing the catch into finished products on board factory. Construction contracts were concluded following the results of the 2019 auction to secure and provide a share of quotas.
In the spring of 2024, the group signed contracts with Okskaya Shipyard JSC (Navashino, Nizhny Novgorod region) for the construction of six more crab fishing vessels of the SSa 5712LS project based on the results of crab auctions in 2023. The contracts amounted to 16.5 billion rubles.
