The FESCO transport group for the first time organized the dispatch of a container train from the Fanipol station (Minsk region, Belarus) as part of intermodal transportation to Shanghai through the St. Petersburg port. The train goes to the Avtovo port station in St. Petersburg, then the containers will be reloaded onto the group’s vessel and sent to the port of Shanghai by the regular FESCO Baltorient Line passing through the Suez Canal, the group’s press service reports.

The shipment includes 62 forty-foot containers (124 TEU), loaded with lumber and wood products from Belarusian manufacturers. The estimated duration of the entire intermodal transportation will be approximately 50-55 days.

At the initial stage, rail shipments under the new logistics scheme will be carried out based on customer requests. In the future, it is planned to form two or three export trains per month at the Fanipol station, where the construction of a container terminal was recently completed.

“Currently, the main import and export cargo flow of the Republic of Belarus passes through the Kolyadichi railway station, which in turn affects the congestion of its infrastructure. Therefore, FESCO added the Fanipol station of the Minsk branch of the Belarusian Railway to its route scheme, the use of its capacity will help avoid cargo downtime, as well as increase the efficiency of sending and receiving container trains,” commented Leonid Shlyakhturov, executive director of the FESCO Integrated Transport company (part of FESCO).

Using the new intermodal route, FESCO can deliver cargo not only to China, but also to India and the countries of Southeast Asia (SEA) via feeder lines from the Chinese ports and organize shipments in the opposite direction – to the Fanipol station.
