Logistics experts highly appreciate its role for mutually beneficial trade between the countries
The authorities of Russia and India will discuss the project of the Vladivostok-Chennai transport corridor at the beginning of the year. This was stated by the Deputy Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Anatoly Bobrakov, the press service of the Primorye government reports with reference to the regional agency for international cooperation.
It is noted that in the current geopolitical situation, the governments of both countries attach great importance to the establishment of navigation between the eastern ports of India and the ports of the Russian Far East. Indian logistics experts highly appreciate the opportunities for mutually beneficial trade between Russia and India due to the functioning of the corridor.
The Vladivostok-Chennai maritime transport corridor operated during the Soviet years. The possibility of restarting the route, in particular, was announced by the Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, Alexei Chekunkov, at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in September 2023. According to him, the line can be used for transporting coal, oil, liquefied natural gas, fertilizers, containers and other types of cargo with the possibility of calls at other Russian and international ports.
