The Sakhalin Oil and Gas Industrial Park will be included in the relevant register of the Ministry

The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade will provide support and maintenance of the project to create the Eastern hydrogen cluster. This was stated by the Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov during a working meeting with the regional governor Valery Limarenko.

“The hydrogen cluster will ensure the technological independence of the Russian Federation in the field of hydrogen and low-carbon technologies, scaling these technologies and exporting hydrogen and related products to the countries of the Asia-Pacific region,” said Denis Manturov.

The Eastern hydrogen cluster is currently being formed in the Sakhalin region within the framework of cooperation agreements between the regional government and Rosatom State Corporation, RAOS JSC, Gazprom PJSC and the Russian Ministry of Eastern Development. The goal of the cluster is to create a new hydrogen energy industry in the region for the export of hydrogen (hydrogen-containing mixtures), development of full-cycle hydrogen technologies and their domestic consumption in the energy sector, utilities and transport.

The creation of the cluster involves the implementation of three pilot projects: the construction of an export-oriented hydrogen plant for low-carbon production of hydrogen using steam methane reforming, the organization of passenger rail service using trains powered by hydrogen fuel cells, and the creation of a hydrogen engineering center with a pilot site for testing domestic equipment in the real sector of the economy of the Sakhalin region.

Governor Valery Limarenko also stressed the importance of the Sakhalin Oil and Gas Industrial Park being created. The Park will include 6 resident enterprises in the oil and gas industry. Due to the importance of ensuring the technological sovereignty of the Russian oil and gas industry, Denis Manturov supported the inclusion of the Park in the register of industrial parks of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.
